Unleash Conference Main Sessions

It’s a little tricky, but you can watch the two main session from the Unleash Conference with Perry Noble at NewSpring.  Click on the “On-Demand” button, and then choose Unleash 2009.  From there, choose early or late, and you will be on your way.  Both are great talks from Perry.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Churches Should Stop Marketing

I watched the final talk of last year’s Catalyst Conference by Andy Stanley called Systems.  Fascinating.  I can’t stop thinking about it.  It explains so many things that are hard to put into words.

Andy says that systems create behavior.  And he goes on to say that behaviors that are rewarded are behaviors that are repeated.  Which leads to the question: what behavior do you want repeated in your family / church / life?  Are there systems in place that encourage this behavior?  If not, why are you surprised that those things don’t happen?

Headin to ATL

I’m leaving on a jet plane in a few hours to go to Hot-lanta for Catalyst Conference.  This is my second time to be at Catalyst, and I’m hoping for another inspiring and eye opening time.  This was the conference that brought PEP in to our lives.  This is also the place where Student Life Camp with Steve Fee became a sure thing.  I also got to hear Rick Warren, Andy Stanley, and Craig Groeschel live and in person, which is always good.  I’ll be back Friday night laaate…until then, get Ring The Bells on iTunes.

Once again, is giving away good content.  This latest installment is ChurchMetrics, a free trend watcher for your churches attendance, giving, and salvation/baptism information.  Numbers are only 1 piece of the trend-pie that needs to be watched by churches, so I wouldn’t say this is the end-all solution to being in church leadership.  But if you can utilize a free program to do it rather than spend time making a goofy spreadsheet, then why not take advantage.

Craig Groeschel Is In My Head

I saw Craig (pastor of speak at Leadership Summit a few weeks ago, and he said two things that I can’t get out of my head.

“We (the church) must do the things that no one is doing if we want to reach the people that no one is reaching.”

“Good leaders are the people who in situations where most people would see problems, they see opportunity”

Both of those thoughts have had significant impact on the way I have shaped the fall, and how I plan on doing ministry for a long time to come.

You can find Craig’s blog on my sidebar…it’s called Swerve.

Home from Mexico

We crossed the Rio Grande around 11:00 AM today after spending 4 days in the Mexican desert.  Our crew (consisting of 13 students and 30 other volunteers) painted adobe houses, did medical and vision clinics, cut hair, served meals, and played with children in the villages of La Rosita, San Miguel, and Eutimias.  I got to sleep under the stars twice, and drive through a part of the world that very few people will ever see.  I had a much better time than I thought I would, and I’m so glad I got to serve alongside of everyone.
